There are several options for free photo editing software available today. Some of the most basic open source image editing and is packaged with other operating systems. Picnik is the default image editor social networking site Flickr, and new plug-in options let you take screenshots of whole web pages. Picknik is available for Mac, Windows and Linux.

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)

A free choice even more sophisticated editing software is the GIMP, or GNU Image Manipulation Program. In addition to basic editing tools, GIMP also offers an option to correct the distortion caused by camera lens and includes a tool cloning. GIMP is available for Mac, Windows and Linux, as well as using OpenSolaris and FreeBSD operating systems.

Photoshop Express

Adobe Photoshop Express is another option to free photo editing software that includes basic editing tools mentioned above, plus up to 2 GB photo storage.

IrfanView
