Questions about installing the Xtreme Xbox 360 firmware?

What is it? How can I do? Do I need to know what type of unit has my xbox? How do I know? What kind of tools do I need? Finally, and most importantly, can I take things seriously until a point I can not fix it? Seems I have the BenQ DVD VAD6038. (got mine at launch, but this was a refurbished one I sent). I am looking for a guide to install the firmware, but I see one. My goal is to be able to play DVDs copied games. Any help / advice would be awesome.
