Does anyone know if there is a way to monitor unauthorized copies of keys?

My husband and I own a business and are tired of having to change the locks everytime we hire/fire a new employee. We request that former employees turn in all keys. Recently, we found an ex-employee in the warehouse after hours, going through tools. We later discovered that he had a copy of the key made! We have tried having keys made that state “DO NOT COPY”, but that seems to be more of a headache than anything. Getting copies made when needed takes an act of congress! I thought that maybe someplace like Ace Hardware might keep a log of keys made that were stamped with a certain number or code. I know it’s a little far-fetched!lol Can anyone help?

No. But you can make an example of the ex-employee. File criminal charges and a civil suit. Having incoming employees sign an agreement that they will not make copies of the keys and that if they get caught copying keys they will be fired and required to pay the cost of lock replacement and new keys being made.
