Longitude Latitude Measurement Tool?

I work for an agency to survey land. I am looking forward to buy a device which can measure longitude and latitude wherever I go. I am not particularly looking for an expensive GPS. All I want is longitude and latitude of a piece of land I visit. Is there any instrument in the market that I can buy?

just a simply GPS GARMIN etc ( now you may find very cheap devices ) and the precision is very high.
The old optical Instruments , used by all the boats till 15 years ago , are very expensive and the precision is quite low
