pc crashes on launching any game + need new graphic card?

I have GMA x3000 onboard graphics on my intel D965wh board..Since last few days , my pc kept restarting frequently wheher in game or normal use..The frequency of crash went on increasing..i formated my hd and installed vista and xp but the problem continued…Now it does not crash on normal use …However the moment i launch any of the game or use windows assesment tool in vista , my pc restarts without any time lag…These games used to work fine without any problem earlier..Any idea if the problem is with my onboard graphics or it could be because of power supply as well….
Besides i am planning to purchase a new graphic card bcs i doubt the problem is with my onboard graphics..I have a pci express slot and 400 watt power supply.. i have to choose between 9600 gt and 9800 gtx…MAx resolution supported by my monitor is 1680*1050….If 9600 GT can serve me for an year atleast , that will be my choice …I am an extreme gamer … 9600 GT is selling for 11 k and 9800 GTX for 22k .

I had same problem before getting a new video card. Now I can play BF2 and games like that without it crashing.
