How do I get the “Advanced Filter” function to work in my Excel spreadsheet?

In my Excel project, I have a set of cells linked to an online stock market update for certain stocks. I am trying to use the Advanced Filter function in order to filter particular cell updates, on these linked cells, into separate cells in a different spreadsheet. However, I am having trouble getting this advanced filter tool to work. I have tried highlighting the cells I want to use, and clicking on the cells that I want to place my advanced filter updates in, but it doesn’t work. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am in a honors course at Texas A&M and both my group and my Teacher Assistant for my class don’t know how to fix it so if anybody could help I’d be eternally grateful. Thanks a lot.

it sounds like you are doing the right thing….i know this sounds hack, but if you are having trouble, you might need to save your file and restart your computer
