Does (Free) Software to Visually Compare MP4/MP3 Files Exist?

I have an MP4 music file that I’ve converted to MP3 format via a couple of software tools.

I know that the ultimate measuring device is my ear but I was looking to see if there was some freeware/open source software for Win/Linux that will let me “see” how the two files “sound”(!).

I’ve tried using Audacity’s “Plot Spectrum” tool.. and although that gives a rough idea of how the MP3 is constructed, Audacity doesn’t seem to deal with MP4(.m4a) files at all.

I’d appreciate any suggestions, please.

The easiest way to know which “sounds” better is to know its Bit Rate. Bit rates with 128 kbps or lower are not very good quality. The higher the bit rate it is, the higher the quality it has. Also the higher the quality and bit rate means the file is larger than a lower quality of the same file.

Right click and go to properties or just hold your mouse over the file to know about the Bit Rate and Size.

I am not sure if this helps but I have given you the most common and factual way to compare music qualities.
