What is the best way to study Japanese?

I have kinda been self-studying for a short time. When I say kinda, I mean that I lack motivation. It’s always the same way whenever I study a language. I usually give up halfway. I don’t want to do that with Japanese! I need to get pumped up! What are some good study tools that I can use? Currently I use “Japanese the Manga Way” which explains grammar and sentence structure quite well. For vocabulary I use iKnow.co.jp I know most of the hiragana characters and like 5 katakana. =D

What books, websites, dictionaries, CDs, anything are useful for different aspects of learning Japanese? For example: Grammar, Kanji, vocabulary, slang, honorific language, etc.

Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

Immersion is the best way to learn how to speak a language. Try speaking Japanese as often as you can. Do you have any friends who can speak Japanese? If so, practice with them!

For grammar, if you’re comfortable with using books, continue using them. However, I’d highly recommend that you take formal classes if you want to become fluent in the language. No book, language learning software, etc. can teach you proper grammar to its fullest extent. A teacher comes in handy when you need someone to proofread compositions and learn colloquialisms,
