Google Language Tools Dictionary
Are there good tools for multilingual text editing and translation?
I imagine that there must be good (open source / free) software for bilingual/multilingual text editing.
I’m not sure how such tools would work, but I imagine that something a bit like Microsoft Word… but instead there are two simultaneous columns of text (one for each language), the ability to add links and notes between the two texts (saying that these sentences/paragraphs translate each other), notes on translation and built-in dictionaries for the translation, and the corresponding paragraphs in two languages are kept in alignment when scrolling.
My particular interest is English/Chinese, but a more general tool would be fine. I’m not doing professional translation, but it seems that I’m working with texts in both languages often enough that it seems a tool would make my life easier.
I’ve tried a few google searches, but haven’t really seen anything I like.
CAT (Compuer-Aided Translation) tools such as OmegaT (it’s free), Wordfast (it’s not very expensive), Trados and many others.
Most of them include terminology management utilities.
