i am currently running windows xp and run linux sabayon from a live dvd, however having decided this is the distro of linux i wish to install i need to partition my drive
however i dont want to lose windows xp,is there any way of partitioning my c drive(local disk) so i can create a small 20gb partition to run sabayon linux from
i noticed there is a partition tool on the sabayon desktop, can this utility be used to create the partitions needed?
cheers guys
i need to know can i create a new partition from a single partiion,in other words a full 80gb local disk drive ,then create a small 20gb partition so it would have partitions c..60gb d…..20gb
is this posssible with gparted?
cheers
Excellent question. Incredibly, this is possible with qparted even tho it is not possible with any Windows product.
Altho you will likely find that XP is unnecessary, you can do a dual boot while preserving XP as you suggested. To do this:
1. Make a BACKUP of your XP first, just in case you make a mistake!
2. Run qparted from Linux, and repartition your hard drive as you desire, remembering that Linux will have a seperate swap partition, and, since you will be manually partitioning, you will need to create a swap partition. Understand that you must know where the XP is located, because if you reformat the partition containing XP, you will loose it. I suggest making the partitions NOT the same size. For example, if your hard drive is 60 gigabyte, have a 2 gig swap partition, 18 gig Linux, and the balance of about 40 gig going to XP.
